The Future of The Site

In case anyone is interested, I wanted to give a little preview of what's going on with me, and the future of the Thrill of the Wild.  For anyone who doesn't know, I started this site about half a year ago, in April.  I had been thinking of starting a hunter blog for quite a while, but it was Arth's April Fool's Day joke on the Warcraft Hunters Union site that really pushed me to get the site up, and start writing.  And I've had a lot of fun updating it and really just as an outlet for some of the hunter maths I was making for myself.

In the last couple of months, the hunter community around WoW has really had a great resurgence, with the rebirth of the WHU and the Hunting Party Podcast, along side continual great content from the longer standing hunter bloggers like Dark Brew and the Grumpy Elf. With that, I've been thinking about what I should do with the Thrill of the Wild, and where it's place should be among hunter blogs.

Over the next few weeks, I'm planning on mostly working on things for the Warlords release. To go along with that, there's going to be a guest blogger here on the site who's working on some hunter mechanic guides for warlords.  One unfortunate result of Blizzard attempting to "simplify" our spellbook is there are a lot of mechanics that are going to be unnamed, and newer hunters won't have any way of knowing about those mechanics. So he's writing some comprehensive guides to some of the mechanics.  For example, the first one he's written (which will be going up soon), is a guide to focus in Warlords. It may seem simple at first, but with mechanics like Wild Hunt being removed from the spell book (though the mechanic still existing) or the merging of Go for the Throat and Invigoration, as well as the new focusing talents, it's turned out that there's a lot to cover.

I'm also working on some more general spec guides along with some other hunters for the WHU, which should be out soonish.  However, other than getting guides ready for WoD, I'm going to be taking it pretty easy here on the site, up until the release of WoD.  I've also been trying to limit my game time, in anticipation of putting in a lot of hours in November.  If I do make any spreadsheets from testing on the beta that turn out to be meaningful, I'll probably go ahead and do a little write-up on them here.

Anyhow, that's about it.  Thanks to everyone who's been reading over this past half year.  Happy Hunting.

  1. Hey Delirum! Can't wait to read those guides!

I'm actually writing a summarized guide for hunters in WoD, using a mild approach and not tackling in depth math/theorycraft that much. Pretty much a "newcomers" guide. Was planning on sharing it in my guild forums, but if you want I can send you the stuff I have so far to help out. Cheers!

    1. Yeah, that'd be awesome. Bendak is doing spec guides aimed at beginners (i think) for wowhead, and I believe RogerBrown is doing the hunter guides for IcyVeins. So I was planning on having links to as many guides as possible. Let me know when you have yours up, I'd love to at least link them here.

I'm really looking forward to seeing if we all end up agreeing on rotation and stat variance. :-P
